Now fully unveiled (without the barcode wraps), the Pagani Huayra BC is said to be the “most technologically advanced Huayra coupe yet.” The BC is a lightweight, track-focused, road-going hypercar that’s inspired by the Pagani Zonda R and the Zonda Cinque. As for the label ‘BC,’ it stands for Benny Caiola, Pagani Automobile’s first customer and friend of Horacio Pagani – the company’s founder.
It’s interesting to note that the company has clarified that the 1,350 kg Huayra BC is “not just a restyling of the Huayra, but a product that includes innovative changes in every part of the vehicle.” With that, Pagani says that the Huayra BC carries with it “a completely different personality” compared to the Huayra coupe. To add to that, it’s no trend-follower either.
Rather than employing a mix of hybrid propulsion like others have done, the company instead chose to put its resources into creating the lightest, globally homologated hypercar. This, alongside chassis and new suspension systems and a completely new transmission that pays heed to performance and comfort, without the need to sacrifice weight and balance, Pagani states.
Save for the roof, the Huayra BC has been completely redesigned. It does not share a single body panel with the Huayra coupe. The new items include a front splitter, side skirts, a tall rear wing and a rear diffuser.
The body of the Huayra BC is also designed to generate more downforce than the standard coupe. To add to that, air speed has been increased across all ducts and inlets for better cooling of internal components and evacuation of air, which in turn also leads to reduced aerodynamic drag.
Power comes from a 6.0 litre V12 bi-turbo engine, developed exclusively for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG. In total, the engine produces over 750 hp at 6,200 rpm and a ‘yet-to-be-confirmed’ amount of torque at 1,000 to 4,000 rpm. The sports exhaust system, which consists of materials such as titanium, is now lighter too. In addition to that, it also comes with a low back pressure muffler as well.
The powerplant is mated to a seven-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) developed from scratch by Xtrac. With a new electro-hydraulic actuation system and new carbon-fibre synchronisers, gear engagement is said to be more precise, while gearshift times are reduced. It also gets a new electronic active differential, while weight of the gearbox is lower by 40% compared to a dual-clutch unit.
Additionally, the clutch control programme has been heavily revised, while the transverse layout allows for the compact packaging and a mass that’s focused towards the BC’s centre of gravity, resulting in less oversteer. New tripod axle drive shafts derived from Le Mans racing cars, are also part of the transmission pack.
Weight savings are also achieved via the suspension system. The Huayra BC is fitted with a specially-developed set that contains components forged from HiForg – a high-strength, lightweight aeronautic aluminium alloy. The BC’s suspensions are 25% lighter than the Huayra’s. Brakes are Brembo carbon-ceramic units, that’s 6% lighter than before, while the calipers are now stiffer too.
The Huayra BC wears lightweight, forged wheels which comes in 20-inches for the front and 21-inches in the rear, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. For the track, the Huayra BC can be set up with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubbers. Said tyres, strictly for track use, allow the BC to achieve lateral accelerations with peaks of 2G.
On top of that, the Bosch ESP system has been recalibrated to work with the new components. A third mode – Track – has been added to the driving mode, which previously consists of Comfort and Sport. The interior is also focused on weight saving with more carbon-fibre used now. In addition, it gets a new electric parking brake, a suede leather-wrapped steering and new sports seats.
Only 20 units of the Pagani Huayra BC will be made, priced at USD$2.5 million (RM10.5 million), all units have already been spoken for. The new Huayra BC will debut at the Geneva motor show.
