It’s no secret that DC2-generation Acura Integra Type R models are becoming extremely prized among collectors. We had no idea they were starting to get this desirable, however.
Over the weekend at >Barrett Jackson’s Las Vegas auction, a pristine 1997 Acura Integra Type R sold for a staggering $63,800, easily setting a record as the most powerful Integra Type R sold at auction.
The car in question is number 37 of just 320 examples which were built for the U.S. market for the 1997 model year. Making the car particularly desirable is the fact that it is painted Championship White and was sold with a beautifully-maintained interior covered in black suede, leather, and red stitching.
However, the one thing which really attracted bidders to this Integra Type R was the fact that it has just 1191 miles (1916 km) under its belt, almost certainly making it one of the lowest-mileage examples in existence. In case you didn’t know, the DC2 Type R features a screaming 1.8-liter four-cylinder VTEC engine delivering almost 200 hp and finding one that hasn’t had its engine thrashed for decades can be hard.
The engine itself also happens to be one of Honda’s finest and in the DC2R, was mated exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels through a limited-slip differential. The result is one of the most thrilling and best handling front-wheel drive cars ever produced.
Jalopnik reports that bidding on this Type R started at $5000 and quickly rose to the final bid of $58,000. After buyer premiums and fees, the final figure comes out at $63,800.
