Acura is cutting the price of the freshened 2019 ILX compact luxury sedan amid an industrywide slump in car sales.
Pricing on the base ILX, available with premium, technology and A-Spec packages, starts at $26,895, a $2,200 reduction from the outgoing model,
Acura says. At the top of the lineup, the 2019 ILX A-Spec with technology package now lists for $32,545, a reduction of $3,550 from the 2018 model, Acura said. Prices include shipping.
"The critical mission of ILX is to bring new buyers into the brand, and our entire product and pricing strategy reflects that focus," said Acura General Manager Jon Ikeda. "We believe that what we've done with ILX from a design and technology standpoint, together with aggressive pricing, will strengthen its position as our gateway sedan and as a segment leader in terms of attracting millennial buyers."
Car sales have dropped to 31 percent of the U.S. light-vehicle market this year, down from 36 percent through the first nine months of 2017, and are on track to decline for the sixth straight year. U.S. sales of the ILX through September this year are off 9.2 percent.
Acura has reshaped the
ILX for 2019, giving it the familiar diamond grille that graces the faces of the rest of the brand's lineup.
Along with the revised nose, Acura said it is adding AcuraWatch driver-assist technologies as standard equipment, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, to the ILX.
The ILX, based on the same platform as the Honda Civic, was launched in 2012 and freshened in 2016.
It is equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-four engine that generates 201 hp and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
