Maruti Suzuki is getting ready to launch its new hot hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, today in India. In preparation for the launch, the Indian automaker has released the television commercial of the car on the official Nexa Experience YouTube channel. With the tagline ‘Made of Speed’, the TVC gives us a glimpse of the handling capabilities and speed of the Baleno RS, in keeping with its positioning as a performance-focused hatchback. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is going to take on the likes of other high-performance hot hatches like the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, Fiat Abarth Punto and the Ford Figo 1.5 Ti-VCT.
Set in the background of the night on what appears to be a large expanse of salt flats, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS is seen gunning the stretch in full speed before executing some sharp turns to show off its agility. The 30-second TVC ends with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS pulling off what looks like a reverse 180. Between the car stunts, animation of the BoosterJet engine of the Baleno RS is seen in action. The BoosterJet, of course, is the highlight of the upcoming car. It is a light 1.0-litre inline three-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and a turbocharged, tuned to deliver around 100 bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque. The engine, along with the light 950 kg weight of the car, makes the Baleno RS the fastest and most powerful hatchback yet from Maruti.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS was first seen as a concept during the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, along with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The Ignis launched early in 2017, and the Baleno RS will mark the second launch for the automaker in the year. Maruti has several other launches planned for 2017, but the spotlight is on the Baleno RS for now. The BoosterJet has been tuned to churn out its maximum power at 5,500 rpm and peak torque at 1,700-4,500 rpm. It is slightly detuned from the 112 bhp BoosterJet engine available in other countries, but it is still powerful enough to take on its closest competitor: the Volkswagen Polo GT. While the GT TSI gets a DSG automatic gearbox, however, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will only come with a five-speed manual.
