Fake Doctorates: Swiss University Has Accreditation Alumni

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) says the claim that some of its lecturers acquired fake doctorate degrees from the Swiss Management Center (SMC) in Switzerland is false.

A statement from the university and copied Myjoyonline.com says the relevant checks conducted by the school authorities have proven the school is credible and has an enviable reputation in Switzerland.

Some Ghanaian researchers at the Valdosta State University in the United States wrote to the Education Minister claiming a number of prominent Ghanaians have acquired doctorate degrees from unaccredited tertiary institutions.

In the letter, they cited the Swiss Management Center as one of the unaccredited institutions. In all at least forty-seven (47) Ghanaians are reported to have acquired their doctorate degree from the school. UPSA has six (6) of its lecturers being part of the number.

This triggered screaming headlines lambasting UPSA authorities for encouraging lecturers to deceive the public.

UPSA authorities caved in under the pressure but swiftly retorted the doctorate degrees the lecturers acquired from school are genuine and credible.

It says Ghana’s Accreditation Board has confirmed the credibility of the Switzerland-based private institution in April, 2008.

The Swiss Embassy in Accra also confirmed the school has been approved by four distinguished institutions including the European Council for Business Education (ECBE).

Based on the authentication it received from the two institutions, UPSA is convinced nothing will taint the reputation of the school.

It has expressed confidence in the staff who obtained their qualification from the SMC.
