About a dozen Oak Brook residents who supported a $17.9 million park district referendum to attempt to purchase 34 vacant acres being sold by McDonald’s urged the Village Board Tuesday to make sure the property remains open space.
McDonald’s has a contract to sell the land to PulteGroup, which is proposing a luxury, gated residential community with 170 town houses. However, the developer has not yet presented formal plans to the Village Board, and there is no guarantee PulteGroup will get needed zoning approval.
Ray Cesca, one of four co-chairs of the citizens group Supporters of the Oak Brook Park District told the board that results of the referendum spoke loudly.
“We ended up having a landslide. The will of the people was overwhelming,” he said of the referendum that received 3,234 votes in favor and 1,515 against, according to the unofficial totals.
