McLaren Chases The Dragon Market With Special Edition 570GT

The British carmaker has worked with renowned designer and entrepreneur Mr Cabbeen to come up with the special edition, which features a gold dragon hand-painted on the door panels and a carefully handcrafted dragon stitched on the rear luggage deck.

More on McLaren:

Just five of the 570GT MSO Cabeen Collection models will be built, all for the Chinese market. Each will be finished in MSO Bespoke obsidian black paint, which features a glittery effect, and will wear 15-spoke alloy wheels finished in a gloss gold paint.

Ansar Ali, head of MSO, said: ‘As a fusion of contemporary British design style and Chinese classic art elements, the 570GT MSO Cabeen Collection was created to satisfy Chinese customers’ desire for individualisation and is evidence of the growing interest in MSO services in the China market.’

The golden dragons on the rear luggage deck have been designed by Mr Cabbeen and were hand-embroidered by Kang Huifang, director of the professional embroidery committee of China’s Arts and Crafts Institute. She is renowned for her work over the last four decades to preserve the art of Chao embroidery, which is said to be highly collectable in China and recognised as part of China’s cultural heritage.

Inside, the cars are finished in black Alcantara, and where you would usually find the ‘Made in Woking’ McLaren plaque underneath the infotainment system under the dashboard there is a new plaque featuring the same dragon motif designed by Mr Cabbeen.

The special edition 570GT has just made its debut at the Beijing show and is available for Chinese customers to order straight away. No information has been made available about the price of the car, but you can imagine McLaren won’t have any trouble finding customers willing to pay whatever it’s asking.
