After having tasted success in the Indian Rally Championship (IRC) last year, Yokohama has announced its entries for the 2015 season.

It'll have a team in the 1600cc class, as well as in the 2000cc class. Rahul Kanthraj (crowned the 2000cc IRC champion in 2014) and co-driver Vivek Bhatt will be piloting a 130-odd bhp Mitsubishi Cedia, and in the 1600cc class will be a Team Yokohama Volkswagen Polo, driven by Karna Kadur and co-driven by M Chandrashekar.

Yokohama will also be providing support to another entrant: Pruthvi Domnic, a Yokohama dealer in Bangalore, will also be participating in the 2000cc class in his Cedia.

Kanthraj expects competition to be fierce this season. Speaking to, Kanthraj said, 'The level of competition this year will be much higher than it has been in the past. We have worked on our machine for about three months, and we're confident that this car can challenge for the championship again this year'.

The first rally of the season in Goa had to be called off because of a territorial dispute, which leaves the current IRC calendar with five rounds: three gravel rallies, and two tarmac rallies. Word is that efforts are being taken to incorporate another round into the schedule to compensate for the lost Goa round. For now, the action commences in Nashik next weekend.
